Remnants, Hour Upon Hour | Collaboration with Thomas Albrecht
Collaboration with Thomas Albrecht.
A month-long series of performances leaving traces in the gallery, responding to the geographical and historical site of the Woodstock Artists' Association and Museum. The performances consider the landscapes of the Hudson River School Painters, and their fixation on the sublime, impermanence of light and the ineffable. We took a capacious approach to representation and its ideologies, in particular discovery, expansion and settlement, and its implications for Manifest Destiny. These ideas persist and recycle back in contemporary culture, but cloaked in different aesthetics.
The month-long durational series of performances provided a platform of fluidity and artifice suggestive of cyclorama and cinema, painting and photography, while the slow labor and accretion of remnants created multiple installations throughout the month.
